Scheduled Downtime

Tomorrow, Saturday April 11 2009, at approximately 1 a.m. ET the server running Settler IV will be taken down for maintenance. The process is expected to take a couple of hours. During most of the maintenance all services hosted on Settler IV will be unavailable. This includes all hosted sites and all site sections.

    About one hour behind schedule I’ve initiated a systems shutdown to start the maintenance operation. The site will be up for a little longer while a snapshot of the database is copied to off site storage.

    Settler IV is now in maintenance mode, doing a full file system check. This is expected to take some time.

    HOw much longer is the site likely to be down Gramphos? 3 hours? 6?

    We have entered phase two of the maintenance, which is another full file system operation. The check took roughly 1 hour to complete, and this phase is expected to take about the same time. After that we have another one hour file system check to look forward to.

    So far everything is going according to plans. Since we have never done this operation before we can’t tell exactly how long it will take, but at least two more hours. We’ll keep you posted with our progress.

    So far all is going according to the plans. We still don’t have an ETA, but judging from the current progress we need at least one more hour.

    Most file system operations have been successfully finished. There are still some things left to be done before we can reboot from the maintenance system.

    Settler IV is now rebooting, and most services should be restored shortly. The forum will stay down for a little longer to finish an upgrade of vBulletin.

    Settler IV and the forums are now back online. There might still be some services that needs to be started.
